The latter doesn&#8217;t work anymore since the Vivid release.<\/p>\n<p>Audacity isn&#8217;t got flawlessly programmed software. At the desktop environment, there isn&#8217;t (everything is possible, so LXDE instead Enlightenment briefly loaded). A newer or fixed version as v2.0.6 (October 2014) isn&#8217;t in the repositories, and no not yet released and not even for Wily &#8211; and that, although v2.1.0 is final since 2015-03-29.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->In the repositories for Debian Sid there is nothing newer (in exceptional cases, such as Chromium is very neglected treated in Ubuntu, you can install Debian packages by dpkg, but you have consider dependencies). That Ubuntu hasn&#8217;t otherwise, no surprise, it makes use of it. Accordingly, the Debian version brings the same issues. Also the quasi-official unstable PPA (after installing revealed an alpha, pff) with deb files from March isn&#8217;t better.<\/p>\n<p>Usually I compile the one or the other current version themselves, such as VLC and Pidgin for many years. However for me <code>make<\/code> brought a non detachable error in Audacity.<\/p>\n<p>The gag is that the problem is <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.audacityteam.org\/wiki\/Release_Notes_2.1.0\" target=\"_blank\">known<\/a>. In Ubuntu Vivid and Debian Jessie and Sid Audacity is built against wxWidgets v3.x &#8211; and Audacity is not yet compatible. Nothing happens. Fixes in Audacity (in the corresponding distributions) always take longer than average.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese <a href=\"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2015\/04\/install-audacity-audio-editor-2-1-0-in-ubuntu-from-ppa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blogger Panda Jim<\/a> alias &#8220;Ji m&#8221; has compiled against wxWidgets v2.8.12 and provides the packages <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/audacity\" target=\"_blank\">in his PPA<\/a>:<\/p>\n<pre escaped=\"true\" lang=\"sh\" line=\"1\">\r\nsudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/audacity\r\nsudo apt-get update &amp;&amp; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p>Currently Audacity is there only. If you want to make sure, you unsubscribe the PPA, but Audacity so also gets no any updates:<\/p>\n<pre escaped=\"true\" lang=\"sh\" line=\"1\">\r\nsudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/audacity\r\nsudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n<p>Instead subscribing of foreign source, you can also manually download the two packages. Standing in the path you have execute:<\/p>\n<pre escaped=\"true\" lang=\"sh\" line=\"1\">\r\nsudo dpkg -i audacity* &amp;&amp; sudo apt-get -f install<\/pre>\n<p>Well done.
